This site was built by Olivier Morin and Nicolas Claidière. It is currently maintained by Nicolas Claidière. Olivier Morin is the Blog editor. Olivier wishes to thank Thomas Morin and Michael Berthin for their help. Our site proudly runs on Joomla. The banner features a piece of Batik cloth from Ghana. The photograph was taken by The White African. Sadly, we do not know the identity of the artist. The background, the separators as well as the picture you just clicked are original works of art created for this site by cognitive artist Dominique Baillot. Each one of the element in the background is a Flash rendering of one of René Thom's attractor. The other pictures are made from combinations of these "attractors". An attractor is a point in a space, or a structure within that space, such that if a point happens to drift in the vicinity of the attractor, it will stay there and resist displacement. As a result, dynamic systems that evolve for a sufficiently long time will converge to a state that is determined by attractors. |
